The Everest Group, a global technology consultant based in Dallas, has released its annual evaluation of technology providers serving the robotic process automation software market. There was no movement at the top of the 2023 list compared to last year—the company named Automation Anywhere, NICE, Microsoft, SS&C Blue Prism and UiPath as its top performers in the RPA space.

The consultancy, which produces a “PEAK Matrix” report for dozens of technology sectors, ranked 25 companies in the RPA space on two axes—”market impact” and “vision and capability.” It separates them according to their position on the matrix into “aspirants,” “major contenders” and “leaders.”

In addition to those in the ‘Leaders’ category, RPA technology evaluated by Everest Group for the report include solutions from: Aiwozo, akaBot, Appian, AutomationEdge, Cyclone Robotics, Datamatics, ElectroNeek, Epiance, IBM, JIFFY.ai, Laiye, Nintex, Nividous, OpenBots, Pega, qBotica, SAIO, Salesforce MuleSoft and SAP. While the company sells a version of the report on its website that includes a full market and trend analysis, the graph showing the relative positions of the companies included in the evaluation is publicly available. akaBot, Epiance and Salesforce MuleSoft are new to the list this year.

Everest Group noted in its report that RPA was a leading technology in software automation for many years, but is evolving as it combines with other technologies and advancing AI capabilities.

“While the overall automation ecosystem is rapidly evolving through new technologies – such as Intelligent Document Processing (IDP), process mining, task mining, API-based automation, process orchestration, and conversational AI – in this dynamic landscape, a new force is making its presence felt: generative AI,” the company said. “This transformative technology is reshaping the RPA space in profound ways, offering unprecedented capabilities to automate complex and cognitive tasks.”
